During our circle time and Respectful Relationships lessons, students reflect on what they have learnt. A valuable learning tool to reduce physical incidents in the school yard.

Overview

The Be Wise Primary Program is a whole-school wellbeing and violence-prevention program designed to build safe, respectful behaviour over time, not through one-off lessons, but through a clear learning journey from Prep to Grade 6.

Students are explicitly taught how to recognise and regulate emotions, prevent escalation, make safe choices under pressure and lead with empathy, both online and offline. Skills are introduced early, practised often, and strengthened year by year.

Led by experienced Pat Cronin Foundation facilitators and supported by a comprehensive, ready-to-teach curriculum, Be Wise Program equips schools with a shared language, consistent strategies and practical tools that support both prevention and early intervention helping to create calmer classrooms and safer playgrounds.

Student Outcomes

The primary years are critical for building the foundations of emotional regulation, peer relationships and safe behaviour. Without consistent support, challenges can escalate into conflict, disengagement or unsafe choices.

Be Wise supports schools to address this early and proactively.

Students who participate in the Be Wise Primary Program:

  • Build emotional literacy by recognising emotions, body cues and triggers
  • Learn practical strategies to pause, regulate and respond safely
  • Develop empathy, help-seeking behaviours and peer support skills
  • Strengthen shared values such as kindness, respect and responsibility
  • Apply learning through leadership and community action projects
  • Transition out of primary school with confidence, safety awareness and resilience

These are skills for life, not just school.

Support

Program structure and flexibility

The Be Wise Primary Program delivers the strongest outcomes when implemented as a whole-school program, ensuring students and staff share a consistent language and approach across all year levels. This reduces mixed messages, supports calmer learning environments and strengthens long-term impact.

Schools may also choose to begin with:

  • Junior School (Prep–Grade 3), or
  • Senior School (Grades 4–6)

These phased options act as entry points, with the curriculum designed to scale into the full Prep–Grade 6 pathway over time.

All curriculum resources are reusable year after year, supporting sustainable implementation without ongoing curriculum costs.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a Be Wise Presentation go for?

Each session runs for 60 minutes – 45 minutes of presentation and 15 minutes of Q&A. If you have more or less time available, let us know and we’ll adapt.

What if our school only has 40–50 minutes?

We can modify delivery to suit shorter timeframes — just mention it when booking.

What year levels is the program suitable for?

Our Secondary Program is designed for students in Years 7–12, with content tailored to suit each age group. Primary School Program is also available.

How many students can attend one presentation?

There is no maximum number of students per presentation. It is simply limited to you having the space to accommodate the students you would like to attend. We don’t recommend large groups as best practice, however if it is the difference between the students hearing the presentation or not, we would always say hearing the message is best. We do recommend students are seated rather than sitting on the floor.

What room setup or technology do we need?

A venue with a screen/projector and microphone is best. We’ll confirm all AV needs when we speak with you.

Do you provide resources for follow-up?

Yes. Every booking includes access to classroom discussion guides, posters, student reflection sheets and parent communication tools to extend learning beyond the session.

Do you run different presentations for Girls or Boys Schools?

Our presentations are appropriate for all genders. We present to many single gender schools. The presentations are the same for all genders, as the message is to stop and think about the consequences of your actions. Our presenters are excellent at reading the emotions of young people and responding to the different issues as they emerge throughout the presentation.

Can we request a particular facilitator?

We will always do our best to schedule your preferred Facilitator, however it will be subject to availability. All Facilitators have Working with Children Checks and are experienced in youth engagement.

Can we book more than one presentation?

Yes we can accommodate up to 4 presentations on one day with a single facilitator.

Are the presentations different each year?

Our presentations are annually reviewed and updated where necessary, building on core content themes and learning outcomes each year.

Does the program align with the curriculum?

Yes. Content aligns with Victorian and Australian Curriculum outcomes in Health & PE (Personal, Social and Community Health), Respectful Relationships and Civics & Citizenship.
